Up Next: The 28th ranked University of New Mexico men’s soccer team will take on Fort Lewis College in the Lobos’ second and final exhibition match of the 2004 preseason. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 28, (M.D.T.) at the UNM Soccer Complex.

Due to the construction on the north end of University Stadium, fans attending the Lobo-Skyhawk exhibition game are asked to enter the UNM Soccer Complex through the south gate. Also, admission is free for this match.

Fort Lewis College competes in NCAA Division II and is a member of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC). The Skyhawks are coming off a 12-7-1 record in 2003 and a tie for first place in the RMAC with a 9-3-0 conference record. FLC has been picked by the RMAC coaches to win the 2004 conference crown.

UNM head coach Jeremy Fishbein got started in coaching at Fort Lewis. He began as an assistant coach and was head coach of the Skyhawks’ soccer program from 1992-98. He posted a 74-47-7 record and won four conference titles at FLC.

Juniors Ricky Francis and Lance Watson both received red cards in the Lobos’ final match of the 2003 season and have to sit out New Mexico’s first regular season match in 2004. Since this is an exhibition match, both players will be eligible to play.

Lobos Down No. 7 SMU in Preseason Exhibition -The Lobos’ exhibition match with No. 7 SMU on Saturday, Aug. 21, in Houston, Texas, ended in a 0-0 tie. The coaches decided to end the game with penalty kicks instead of the regular overtime periods, and the Lobos won the shoot-out, 4-3. Senior keeper Andrew Weber stopped the Mustangs’ fifth attempt, allowing junior Brandon Moss to step in and win the game on the Lobos’ final kick.
