Incoming freshman Lobo men’s basketball player Bambale Osby scored seven points and grabbed six rebounds in the first game of the Score International High School All-Star team’s tour of the Dominican Republic. The Score International team defeated the San Lazaro 16-18 club team, 75-72, last night in Santo Domingo.
What appeared to be a an easy match-up for the USA squad, quickly turned into a hard fought game when the smaller San Lazaro team took an early, 12-4, lead. The first quarter was close with Score International leading, 21-20, at the first break.
Score International maintained a one point lead at the half 37-36, but early in the third quarter a power outage, because of a power shortage in the country, delayed the game for 30 minutes. When power was restored, the game remained close until Score International hit a pair of free-throws at the end to ice the three-point win.
Lobo senior Alfred Neale was scheduled to play with the collegiate team but was unable to make the trip. Osby and his high school team will face the San Carlos Club team Tuesday at 3:00 p.m. (M.D.T.).
