The Mountain West Conference announced its 2004 preseason All-Conference Football team today – as selected by members of the league’s media – and five Lobos were among those chosen. Highlighting this list were junior running back DonTrell Moore, junior center Ryan Cook and senior offensive tackle Claude Terrell who were three of the seven unanimous selections league-wide. Junior cornerback Gabriel Fulbright and senior place-kicker Wes Zunker were the other two Lobos selected.
All totaled, Utah lead the league with six honorees while New Mexico followed with five. Colorado State and San Diego State each placed four student athletes on the team, while BYU had three, UNLV two, and Wyoming one. There was a league record 20 players on this year’s team that were all-conference selections in 2003, including 14 first team selections that are returning in 2004. The seven unanimous selections were also a five-year high.
The Lobos’ kick off the 2004 season on Friday, September 3, against Washington State in University Stadium. Game time is set for 6:00 p.m. (M.D.T.) and the game will be broadcast live on ESPN to a national audience.
