ATHENS, Ga.– University of New Mexico’s All-American doubles team of senior Sandy Lukowski and sophomore Maja Kovacek proved once again why they are the No. 8 pair in the nation after downing the No. 8 seeded Washington duo of Claire Carter and Dea Sumantri, 7-5, 6-4 in the NCAA quarterfinals this afternoon in Athens, Ga.
So far, Kovacek and Lukowski have stormed through the NCAA doubles tournament, defeating No. 4 seeded Arizona for a huge upset in the round of 32 and gaining the All-American title after beating the Texas A&M doubles team in the round of 16.
The Lobo tandem will try to bring more thunder in tomorrow’s semifinal match against the winner of this afternoon’s competition between the No. 3 Northwestern pair of Jessica Rush and Cristelle Grier and No. 32 Jessica Johnson and Ashley Kroh of Marshall University.
