SUNRIVER, ORE. – The University of New Mexico men’s golf team is currently in second place after the opening round of the NCAA West Regional. The Lobos fired a 4-under par 282 on the par-72 7,597 yard Crosswater Course at Sunriver Resort. The overall team lead belongs to UCLA who shot a 5-under par 283 and leads the Lobos by one stroke. The top-10 teams from the NCAA West Regional advance to the NCAA Championships in Hot Springs, Va. on June 1-4.

Individually the Lobos were led by sophomores Spencer Levin, who shot a 3-under par 69 and is currently tied for third, and Jay Choi who carded a 2-under par 70 and is tied for eighth place. Other Lobo results are junior Jay Reynolds is tied for 17th place at 1-under par (71), freshman Charlie Beljan is tied for 49th place at 2-over par (74) and Madalitso Muthiya is tied for 132nd place at 10-over par (82).

The individual lead belongs to Travis Johnson of UCLA who shot an opening round 6-under par 66 and leads Justin Bertsch of Toledo by two strokes.

The NCAA West Regional continues tomorrow with tee times beginning at 8:12 AM (PST). New Mexico is scheduled to tee off at 8:57 AM (PST). Live stats of the NCAA West Regional will be available at www.GolfStat.com.
