Salt Lake City, Utah– Sophomore Maja Kovacek earned her second singles victory of the weekend to lead the No. 33 University of New Mexico women’s tennis team to a 7-0 sweep over conference opponent Utah, Saturday afternoon at the Eccles Tennis Center in Salt Lake City, Utah. The Lobos improve to 15-3 overall and 4-0 in the Mountain West Conference.
Kovacek scored an easy 6-3, 6-2 win over Utah’s Sheri Esrock at No. 1 singles while the rest of the singles line-up went undefeated against Utah with all matches going only to two sets each.
All three doubles teams also went undefeated, earning UNM the doubles point and a conference win over the Utes.
Next week the Lobos travel to Colorado Springs, Colo. for their last three conference matches of the regular season. UNM will face UNLV Friday, San Diego State Saturday and Air Force Sunday. All matches are set to start at 10:00 a.m.
