Colorado Springs, Colo.– New Mexico freshman Iva Gersic was named Mountain West Conference Player of the Week for the second time this season after leading the Lobos to two home victories over the past weekend.

Gresic (Koprivnka, Croatia) posted a pair of singles and doubles wins over Wyoming and Colorado State last weekend. She opened with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Wyoming’s Patricia Chien at No. 1 singles and went on to notch a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Colorado State’s Carla Pallares at No. 2 singles. The Lobo freshman also partnered with senior Maria Ruiz-Fabrega to help UNM to a 2-0 mark in doubles play.

This week, Gersic was nationally ranked No. 103 for singles according to the I.T.A. polls. The last time Gersic was awarded player of the week honors was Jan. 29 after she showed solid play against NAU at UNM’s home opener.
