Honolulu, Hawaii- The No. 26 University of New Mexico women’s tennis team had a great run in Hawaii, winning two of the three matches played during the spring break. UNM’s one loss came today against No. 62 San Diego, falling 5-2 and dropping to an 11-3 record.

UNM had no problem stealing the doubles point from San Diego as it won all three doubles matches. At No. 1 doubles, senior Sandy Lukowski and sophomore Maja Kovacek defeated Jennifer Brown and Lena Baensch, 8-3 while at No. 2 doubles, the tandem of freshman Iva Gersic and senior Maria Ruiz-Fabrega scored an 8-6 win over Lauren Perl and Lauren Kazarian. Rounding out the doubles victories at. the No. 2 spot, were junior Michelle Heidbrink and Tiffany Robertson with a well earned 9-7 victory over Tara Livesay and Emma Murphy.

The Lobos had a tough outing during the singles matches with Lukowski earning the only UNM win at No. 5 singles. The UNM senior defeated San Diego’s Kazarian, 6-0, 6-4.

UNM begins conference play Saturday, April 3 when it faces Wyoming at the Lobo Tennis Club at 2 p.m.
