Head Coach Ritchie McKay
“Obviously we did not have a lot to say to our team after the game.
When we go back to Albuquerque, some things are going to have to happen
for us to change the course of this. Just looking at the stats and
judging from what I saw on the sideline, we shoot 32% from the field,
22% from the arc, and 7-17 from the free-throw line. We went into this
trip leading the league in FT%. We missed nine against BYU and 10 here
tonight and that’s not indicative of how we’ve been playing. I think
we’ve got concentration issues and some other things. I’ve got to find
a combination of who is tough enough mentally to block out those
distractions as well as put forth an effort and sense of team that we
need in order to be successful. I am sure that the fans saw the game
are as embarrassed as I, but the season is not over. We’re going to go
back home and change some things.”
On the defense Utah used against Lobo junior Danny Granger:
“Both Utah and BYU guarded him with guards. I think that’s what were
going to see for the rest of the year. San Diego State guarded Danny
with a player as athletic as him and we didn’t throw it in to him as
consistently as we should have against BYU. Tonight when we tried to
do that Danny didn’t have a typical Danny Granger performance. When
Danny and Dave don’t play well were not going to win a lot of games.”
