Oklahoma City, Okla. – The University of New Mexico women’s tennis team captured a big win this evening against No. 28 Oklahoma at the Woodlake Country Club in Oklahoma City, Okla. Head Coach Kathy Kolankiewicz was impressed by the Lobo squad’s solid team effort.

“It was a team win. Everyone contributed to the match,” said Kolankiewicz. “This is the kind of win we have been waiting for.”

In singles action, Sophomore Maja Kovacek added a win to her record, beating OU’s Irina Lykina, 6-4, 6-0 at the No. 2 singles position. At No. 4 singles, Tiffany Robertson battled Heather Saluri to a 5-7, 6-4, 1-0(4) win while junior Michelle Heidbrink showed strong form at No. 5 singles, downing Jessica Braver, 6-3, 7-5. Rounding out the singles round was senior Tjasa Suvak with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Amanda Pratzel.

The Lobos earned the doubles point after two wins. At the No. 1 doubles spot, Kovacek and senior Sandy Lukowski defeated Perianu and Saluri, 8-4 while freshman Iva Gersic and senior Maria Ruiz-Fabrega garnered an 8-4 win over Lykina and Braver at No. 2 doubles.

UNM returns to tennis action tomorrow, Sunday, Feb. 22, when they face No. 49 Tulsa at 10 a.m. CST.
