Colorado Springs, Colo.– Junior Becca Barras swept the competition both days at the Air Force Diving Invitational this weekend in Colorado Springs. The Kitchener, Ontario native gave outstanding performances on the 1-meter, 3-meter and platform, capturing the gold in all three diving events.
On Friday, Barras was unstoppable, gaining the first place finish in the 3-meter trials (513.65) and winning the 3-meter finals with a top score of 498.00. On Saturday, Barras continued her winning style, placing first in the platform trials (347.10) and seizing the top position in the 1-meter finals with a score of 275.10.
Sophomore Kaley Knafelc and freshman Joanna Garcia also competed at the invite. On the first day, Knafelc placed 14th in the 3-meter trials (348.35) while Garcia followed with 328.05 points. On Saturday, Knafelc finished ninth in the platform trials (243.20) and 12th in the 1-meter finals (212.00). Garcia placed 17th in the 1-meter finals with 157.70 points.
The UNM women’s diving team returns to New Mexico territory to prepare for the upcoming MWC Championships on Feb. 18-21.
