ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP)Alfred Neale scored a season-high 24 points and had
five of New Mexico’s 15 3-pointers in an 88-75 win over San Diego Tuesday
night.

New Mexico (8-4) scored the game’s first 11 points and put the game away
with a 10-1 run in the second half after San Diego (3-11) had cut the Lobos’
lead to 63-50 with 10:20 left.

Brice Vounang led San Diego (3-12) with 25 points, 23 of them in the second
half. Reserve center Brandon Gay scored 24 for the Toreros.

Gay took over at center after starter Nick Lewis was hurt less than three
minutes into the game and was taken from the court on a stretcher.

The 6-foot-10 sophomore was involved in a collision during a scramble for a
loose ball with 17:45 left in the first half. Lewis was on the court on his
back for about 10 minutes while being attended to by medical personnel.

Lewis was taken to the University of New Mexico Hospital. Hospital spokesman
Sam Giammo said Lewis was in satisfactory condition in the emergency room late
Tuesday.

Vounang’s eight straight points sparked an 11-2 run by the Toreros that got
San Diego within 13 points in the second half.

But New Mexico stretched the lead back up to 73-51 with a slam dunk and
3-pointer by Neale, a steal and layup by Danny Granger and a 3-pointer by Troy
DeVries.

Transfer Danny Granger and Troy DeVries again scored in double figures for
the Lobos.

Granger, the former standout at Bradley who transferred to New Mexico a year
ago, scored 17 points and had 14 rebounds. Granger has averaged 20 points a
game since becoming eligible on Dec. 21.

DeVries, a transfer from Portland State who joined the starting lineup at
the same time as Granger, had his fifth double-figure scoring game with 22
points, including six 3-pointers.
