ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) – Casey Frandsen hit six 3-pointers and scored 23
points Monday night to lead Portland to a 77-71 win over New Mexico.

Portland (3-1) used a 23-7 run in the second half to erase a 47-39 New
Mexico lead. In that stretch Adam Quick hit back-to-back 3s and Frandsen hit
one. A layup by Dreshawn Vance with 5:18 left put the Pilots ahead 62-54.

New Mexico (2-1) opened the season with wins over two Division II opponents
and had not trailed in a game this season until Quick’s second 3-pointer gave
the Pilots a 51-50 lead with 10:09 left in the game.

New Mexico then went 7? minutes without scoring a field goal, a drought that
ended with Javin Tindall’s 3-pointer with 4:27 left.

Frandsen then hit his last 3-pointer of the night and New Mexico scored
seven straight points to cut the Portland lead to 68-66 with 1:12 left.

Dustin Geddis hit a short jumpshot in the lane with 47.6 seconds left and
Eugene Jeter hit two free throws 10 seconds later to put the Pilots safely in
front.

New Mexico led by as many as 12 points in the first half. The inside tandem
of Alfred Neale and David Chiotti scored 16 of the Lobos’ first 18 points and
the Lobos hit 8 of their first 13 shots. But Portland, which went on a 13-3 run
late in the first half, was within 34-29 at halftime.

Neale finished with 22 points and 13 rebounds and Chiotti had 19, but the
Lobos did not get a single point off their bench.

Portland hit 10 of 20 3-point shots, with Frandsen going 6-for-8. Geddis and
Donald Wilson each scored 12 points.
