University of New Mexico men’s soccer player Brandon Moss was named to the CollegeSoccerNews.com National Team-of-the-Week on Monday. Moss, a sophomore defender from Albuquerque, played a huge role in the Lobos’ two shutouts over the weekend. UNM defeated No. 25 San Jose State, 1-0, on Friday and Sacramento State, 3-0, on Sunday to clinch a spot in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation postseason tournament.
This is the first time Moss has been named to any national team-of-the-week, although he was a member of CollegeSoccerNews.com’s 3rd-Team Freshman All-American squad in 2002. CollegeSoccerNews.com had this to say about his performance:
“Brandon Moss – Sophomore – Defender – New Mexico – Moss played a key role in the Lobo defense that shutout San Jose State 1-0 and Sacramento State 3-0 over the weekend. Credit Moss and teammates Danny Bills, Jeff Krause, Matt Wootton, Casey Thompson and keeper Andrew Weber with a solid and determined defensive effort and aggressive play that also added to the Lobo attack.”
The Lobos (6-8-3, 3-2-0 MPSF) have now scored three-straight shutouts and head to San Diego State (7-5-3, 1-1-2 MPSF) for their final regular season game on Sunday, November 9th at 1:00 p.m. (P.S.T.). With a win or tie, UNM can secure the second seed and a first round bye in the MPSF Tournament in Sacramento, Calif. on November 13-16, 2003.
