University of New Mexico sophomore men’s soccer player Ben Ashwill earned 2nd Team Academic All-American honors announced by the Collegiate Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) today. Ashwill is well known for his skills on the soccer field, earing All-MPSF recognition in each of his first two years with the Lobos, but it is his 3.90 grade-point-average in General Management that brings him the first Academic All-American honor for a Lobo since 1994.
Ashwill is one of a school-record six Lobos to earn Academic All-District and will also earn his first Academic All-MPSF honor this year. He currently has 18 career goals, tying him for eighth place on the Lobo’s all-time list, to go along with 40 career points in two seasons of play. Ashwill is the fourth Lobo in school history to earn Academic All-American, including David Robertson (’85, ’86) Steve Farrer (’90) and Jason Hix (’94).
