The University of New Mexico men’s soccer team watched the first match of the 2003 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation tournament today in Sacramento, Calif. between No. 3 UNLV and No. 6 Air Force. Air Force advanced to the semifinals with a 3-1 win and will now face the spectating Lobos, who secured a first round bye with their second place finish in the MPSF regular season.

Air Force(10-8-1, 2-4-0 MPSF) boasts the 8th ranked offense in the nation and already has a 2-1 win over the Lobos this season. That game, played at the Air Force Academy, was dominated by UNM in every category but the one that counts, the score. The Lobos outshot the Falcons 22-9, and had eight corner kicks to Air Force’s one. However, Air Force found the back of the net twice, their only shots-on-goal, while UNM could only manage one score.

Game time is set for 5:30 p.m. (M.S.T.) on the campus of Sacramento State University. No. 1 San Jose State will play the winner of No. 4 San Diego State and No. 5 Sacramento State after the Lobos’ match with Air Force. The championship game is set for Sunday at 2:00 p.m. (M.S.T.) with the winner earning an automatic bid for the NCAA Tournament.
