Salt Lake City, Utah – The joined forces of Sandy Lukowski and Maja Kovacek move on to the final doubles round of the ITA Central Region Championship after ending Saturday with two big wins, one against highly ranked University of Missouri.
In the doubles quarterfinals, UNM’s Lukowski and Kovacek upset the no. 1 seeded and nationally ranked (#9) University of Missouri’s doubles team Urska Juric and Katka Sevcikova 8-2. The UNM pair then went on to the semifinals and defeated no. 8 seeded Emily Haylock and K. Steinbock of Kansas 9-7, pushing them into the finals.
Lukowski and Kovacek will make a run for the Central Region title on Sunday ( 9:00 a.m.) at the Eccles Tennis Center.
Singles Main Draw: In the quarterfinals, freshman Iva Gersic’s fantastic run in the singles main draw ended after being defeated by no. 4 seeded Gitte Ostermann of Nebraska 6-3, 3-6, 6-1.
