Tempe, Ariz. – Despite a morning rain delay, the Lobos packed a mighty punch on the first day of the ASU Fall Invitational Friday afternoon, winning 6 of 7 singles and 7 of 8 doubles.
In sinlges highlights, senior Tjasa Suvak defeated Santa Clara’s Casey Knutson 6-2, 6-0. Junior Michelle Heidbrink defeated Santa Clara’s Nicole Jackson 6-4, 6-2 and freshman Nora Quintal defeated Santa Clara’s Jenny Siegel 6-0, 6-1.
In the doubles round, sophomore Maja Kovacek and senior Sandy Lukowski proved to be an unstoppable duo. Their first match was a solid victory (8-1) over Marquette’s Briseno and Charron and in the second match they defeated Arizona State’s Colalillo and Pooler 8-5.
UNM returns to tennis action Saturday morning at the Whiteman Tennis Center in Tempe, Ariz.
