Las Vegas, Nev. – Three players from the University of New Mexico women’s tennis team played in the singles finals for the last day at the UNLV Fall Invite, but it was Lobo Maja Kovacek who came out on top in the Flight two singles finals with a 6-2, 6-2 win over UNLV’s Anne Claire Ortiz-Luis.

In the Flight one singles finals, UNM’s Sandy Lukowski competed against USD’s Lauren Perl, but was defeated 6-2,6-1. In the Flight four singles finals Lobo Maria Ruiz-Fabrega battled with OSU’s Lauren Simmons, but was defeated 6-4, 6-4.

In the consolation rounds, Lobos Iva Gersic executed a win against NAU’s Christina Klokinis 6-3, 6-0. Michelle Heidbrink was defeated by Emma Murphy of USD 6-0, 6-2. Allison Davis was defeated by Julie Schmandt of NAU 6-0, 6-2 and in a friendly competition between two UNM teammates, Tjasa Suvak defeated Nora Quintal 5-7, 6-4, 6-3.

The Lobo women’s tennis team returns to fall action on Oct. 10 when they travel to Phoenix, Ariz. for the ASU Fall Invitational.
