The University of New Mexico men’s soccer team scored their third tie of the season, this time against Gonzaga, 1-1, in Las Vegas, Nev. Senior Stian Eriksen scored in the 50th minute of play to give the Lobos a 1-0 lead. UNM couldn’t hold on to the advantage as Gonzaga evened the score in the 72nd minute. The Lobos (3-3-3) got their third tie of the season, their most since 1987 when they finished 8-10-4.
Eriksen scored his second goal in as many games when he put home an assist from junior Pat Grange. It was the first assist for Grange in a Lobo uniform, who transferred to UNM from Illinois-Chicago. “We played well again,” said UNM head coach Jeremy Fishbein. “We’re still having trouble finishing. We pretty much dominated the game, but we couldn’t finish our opportunities.”
The Lobos will face 25th ranked Cal State Northridge on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. (M.D.T.) in Las Vegas, Nev. The Lobos begin a three-game stretch against ranked teams on Sunday that includes the Matadors, a trip to Los Angeles, Calif. to face No. 2 and defending national champion ULCA on October 9, and a trip to No. 14 UC Santa Barbara on October 12.
