ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Sophomore women’s tennis player Maja Kovacek earned a landmark career win yesterday in the opening round of the ColemanVision Tennis Championships at Highpoint Sports and Wellness in Albuquerque. Kovacek defeated American Kelly Hyndman, who is ranked No. 621 in the world, in two sets, 7-5, 6-3 to advance to the second round of competition.
Kovacek is slated to play her second match of the championships today at Highpoint Sports and Wellness after the 10 a.m. matches have concluded. Her opponent will be announced before the match.
The ColemanVision Tennis Championships are held each year at the New Mexico Sports and Wellness Highpoint Club. The event is part of the Challenger Tour, an ongoing event that enables young up-and-coming players to improve their skills while participating in competitive matches. Ultimately, the hope is that players will gain exposure and move forward in the tennis world.
