The Lobo men’s soccer team could not hold on to a late lead and fell to No. 21 Tulsa, 3-2, in Dallas, Texas tonight. Sophomores Lance Watson and Jeff Rowland both scored unassisted goals in the game but it wasn’t enough as the 19th ranked Lobos fall to 2-2-1 on the season.

Tulsa (4-1-0) got on the board early when Ryan Pore put in his first of three goals on the evening in the 11th minute of play. The unassisted shot just got by Lobo keeper Andrew Weber and gave Tulsa a 1-0 lead. Watson countered six minutes later with a bullet past Golden Hurricane keeper Terry Boss for his fourth goal of the season. Just like all four previous games in 2003, New Mexico went into the locker room tied.

UNM came out firing in the second half as Rowland got his first goal of the season just three minutes into the second frame. The Lobos held their 2-1 lead until the 78th minute of play when Bore scored again off a rebound. Bore added the game-winner in the 81st minute as the Golden Hurricane held on for the 3-2 win.

Bore’s hat-trick is the first allowed by UNM since Eugene Sepuya of Alabama A&M recorded one in a 5-2 win over the Lobos on September 30, 2001. The lobos were without All-American defender Brandon Moss who had to sit out the game due to a red-card he received in overtime against Cincinnati on September 7. As a result, the Lobos were out-shot, 17-12, but Weber kept the game close with 11 saves. Weber now has 204 saves in his career, moving him past Greg Hess (’97) for third place on UNM’s all-time list.

New Mexico will take on No. 9 SMU Saturday night in Dallas, Texas. Game time is set for 6:30 p.m. (M.D.T.) and the game will be broadcast over the Internet. Visit www.smumustangs.com or www.kxvilive.com to listen to the game live.
