The University of New Mexico men’s soccer team is still a month away from its much anticipated season opener against Wisconsin on August 29, but the Lobos are already getting some national attention. CollegeSoccerNews.com released its preseason top-30 and the Lobos are ranked No. 20 in the nation.
The Lobos are coming off an 18-4-0 season in 2002 and return nine starters for the 2003 campaign. Second-year head coach Jeremy Fishbein and the rest of the Lobos open play on the road at Wisconsin on August 29. The Lobos’ home opener is set for 7:30 p.m. (M.S.T.) on September 5 against IUPUI at the UNM Soccer Complex.
“It doesn’t matter where you are ranked at the beginning of the season, it’s the end of the year that counts,” stated Fishbein. “However, its great that our program is getting nation recognition.”
