INDIANAPOLIS – The University of New Mexico will host first- and second-roundgames of the 2004 NCAA Women’s Basketball Championship, the NCAA announced today.

Specific dates will be announced at a later date, but they will either be March 20 and 22 or March 21 and 23.

Last season, UNM drew record crowds for first- and second-round games and the Midwest Regional. Aided by the Lobos playing on their home floor, New Mexico produced three consecutive sellout crowds in excess of 16,100.

Even more impressive was the crowd for the Midwest Regional final between Duke and Texas Tech which attracted 12,413 fans despite New Mexico not participating.

All told, UNM averaged 15,240 fans for four sessions of the 2003 tournament.

The Lobo women’s team will again play at home in 2004 provided they qualify for the tournament.

UNM will also play host to the women’s West Regional in 2006. Men’s tournament action returns in 2005 when the West Regional will be played in The Pit.
