UPCOMING: The University of New Mexico football team will hold its annual Cherry-Silver intrasquad game, sponsored by News Radio 770 KKOB, this Saturday, April 19, at University Stadium. The day begins with a pregame autograph session at 12:30, followed by the hour-long scrimmage at 2 p.m. to conclude the 2003 spring practice session. Fans can also enjoy 50-cent hot dogs, inflatable games, music and highlights from the memorable 2002 football season on the Lobo Vision video board. The stadium gates open at 12:30 and admission is free for everyone.
Lobo football fans can also make their 2003 season ticket deposits on Saturday. UNM ticket office personnel will be on hand at the northwest corner of the stadium to process ticket requests for the highly-anticipated upcoming season. Coming off its 2002 Las Vegas Bowl season, New Mexico opens its seven-game home slate against Southwest Texas on Aug. 30. Conference rival BYU comes to town on Sept. 13, followed by a grudge-match versus New Mexico State on Sept. 27 and Utah State on Oct. 4. UNM then welcomes UNLV (Nov. 1), Colorado State (Nov. 7 on ESPN) and Air Force (Nov. 15) for a three-game homestand which could have a serious impact on the Mountain West Conference title chase.
New Mexico has enjoyed a surge of attendance over the past two years and has done its part to reward its faithful fans. The Lobos have posted an 8-2 record in their last 10 games at University Stadium including a 5-1 mark last fall. UNM was also 3-0 versus MWC opponents in Albuquerque last season.
