Colorado Springs, Colo – For the second straight weekend the No. 49 Lobo women’s tennis team shut out its opponents to earn a perfect record. Today it was CSU, while yesterday Wyoming was on the other end of the Lobos’ power. UNM defeated the Colorado State Rams 6-1 this morning at the Air Force Academy tennis courts, claiming the doubles section and losing at only one singles spot. The team finishes its Mountain West Conference slate at 5-2 and is currently 13-8 overall.

Maja Kovacek stepped back up to No. 1, for the second straight day, and defeated Sanja Hansson 7-6, 7-5. Sandy Lukowski has little trouble against Dasha Zhurin, the Rams’ top singles record holder. Lukowski beat her opponent 6-2, 2-6, 6-3.

Tjasa Suvak was not as fortunate as her Lobo teammates. She fell 7-6, 2-6, 6-1 to Alex Paganetti.

Michelle Heidbrink faced Carla Pallares and beat her Ram competitor 6-1, 6-2 before Tiffany Robertson did virtually the same thing against Jessica Jones. The Lobo sophomore defeated Jones 6-1, 6-1.

Maria Ruiz-Fabrega beat Tatyana Ugorich 7-6 in the first set of their match before Ugorich retired to give Ruiz-Fabrega the victory.

The Lobos will have a week off before hosting the Texas Tech Red Raiders at the Lobo Tennis Club on April 19 at 11 a.m. This will be the last match of the regular season as New Mexico will travel to San Diego, Calif. for the MWC Championships April 24-26.
