COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – New Mexico guard Cristal Garcia was named Mountain West Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, marking her first career award.

A 5-5 senior from Santa Fe, N.M. (Pojoaque HS), Garcia paced the Lobos to a pair of conference wins last week by averaging 18.5 points per game, nearly 11 points over her season scoring average.

Garcia tallied 16 points vs. Wyoming as she shot 4-of-7 from the field and 7-of-7 from the free throw line. Against Colorado State, she scored a career-high 21 points, hitting 6-of-7 three-pointers, another career-high and 3-of-4 free throws. Her .857 percentage from beyond the arc vs. the Rams is tied for the second-highest single-game percentage this season in the MWC.

For the week, Garcia shot 62.5 percent from the field (10-16), 77.8 percent from beyond the arc (7-9) and 90.9 percent from the charity stripe (10-11), while averaging 18.5 points, 3.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game.y
