The University of New Mexico women’s basketball team is going for their 12th win against the Air Force Falcons. UNM is looking to end a two-game skid after losing to BYU and Utah last weekend. The Falcons also lost to BYU and Utah last weekend and have won only one conference game this year.

SOPHOMORE SENSATION: Mandi Moore is making a name for herself in the MWC record books. She set the MWC sophomore record for assists in a game with 12 against Air Force and she continues to buildon her record-setting freshman performance from last season. Moore had a freshman record 146 assists last year and already has 134 this season. Moore has now set the single season MWC sophomore record.

DOUBLING UP: Jordan Adams has had one double-double this year while Chelsea Grear has had two. Grear’s latest double effort was against New Mexico State as she had 20 points and 10 rebounds. Mandi Moore has now joined the club as she had 16 points and 12 assists against Air Force.

HITTING THE BOARDS: The Lobos have proved dominating on the boards this season. UNM has grabbed 120 more rebounds then their opponents, averaging 41.4 to 35.4. Against Memphis the Lobos grabbed a season-high 57 rebounds.

CENTURY CLUB: Two current Lobos have played in over 100 games during their careers. Jordan Adams has played in 111 games and Chelsea Grear has played in 108. Cristal Garcia is closing in on the century mark, having seen action in 90 games.

ADAMS LEADING THE BLOCK PARTY: Jordan Adams has had at least one block in every game so far this year. Adams had a season-high six rejections against Louisiana Tech on Dec. 21.

FAN SUPPORT: The Lobos posted their highest attendance of the year against UNLV with 18,018. It was the fourth sellout in the history of UNM women’s basketball. UNM is now 4th nationally, averaging 10,280 their highest average in school history.OUTLAST: Last weekend, UNM outshot and outrebounded the Utes. That game marks only the second time this season that UNM has lost a game when they have outshot and outrebounded their opponent.

SEASON ACCOLADES: Jordan Adams has been named the Mountain West Conference Player of the Week twice already this year. She’s the only Lobo so far to receive the honor.

FIVE FOR THE DRIVE: The Lobos are going for their fifth 20-win season this year. The Lobos have had all four of their 20-win seasons under head coach Don Flanagan with their best ever record of 26-7 coming in Flanagan’s third year, 1997-98. The Lobos will need to win their next seven games to get their 20th victory during the regular season.

LEADERS OF THE PACK: The Lobos currently are leading the conference in scoring offense (68.8 ppg), free throw percentage (.816), offensive rebounding (37.8 orpg), blocked shots (6.2 bpg) and assist/turnover ratio (0.99). Jordan Adams leads the MWC in blocked shots with 15.

GIVE ME A MINUTE: Mandi Moore led the team in minutes last season averaging 35.2. This season Moore has played the most minutes on the team at 718 minutes. Moore is the only player this year to play an entire game, she’s done it six times.

SIZE MATTERS: The Lobos have seven players on their roster that are 6’0 or taller. The starting five last season averaged 5’10.6. The three incoming freshman average 6’0.3. Jordan Adams and Jana Francis are the two tallest on the roster at 6’3.

D MINUS: The Lobos have ranked in the top-25 final NCAA statistics for defense since Coach Flanagan came on board. Last season the Lobos were ranked in field goal percentage defense and scoring defense. This season the Lobos have held their opponents to 36% from field goal range and only 58.2 points a game.

D-FENCE: UNM has outrebounded their opponent defensively in 12 games this year. Currently UNM has 561 defensive boards to their opponents 460. The Lobos are 1-2 when they have been outrebounded defensively and are 1-5 when they’ve been outrebounded overall.

NOT BAD, FOR STARTERS: New Mexico returns four starters from the 2001-02 season (Mandi Moore, All-America candidate Jordan Adams, Lindsey Arndt and Chelsea Grear).

AN MVP PERFORMANCE: Jordan Adams was given MVP honors for the Southwest Airlines Lobo Shootout. Chelsea Grear and Abbie Letz were both named to the All-Tournament Team.
