Albuquerque, N.M. Chalk up two more awards for the 2002 University of New Mexico mens soccer program, but this time two Lobos are being honored for their work in the classroom instead of on the field. Senior Javier Carrasco and junior Stian Eriksen were both named to the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Academic All-Conference team today.

Carrasco was the teams co-captain and started 20 of the Lobos 22 games this season. He scored four goals and added an assist in 2002 but it was his 3.2 grade-point-average that earned him his most recent recognition. Carrasco, a native of Anthony, N.M., is majoring in Education.

Eriksen started all 22 of New Mexicos matches and was third on the team with 1,815 minutes played. The junior midfielder from Asker, Norway finished the 2002 fall semester with a 3.3 g.p.a. in Management Information Systems.

In order to be eligible for an Academic All-MPSF award, a student-athlete has to hold a 3.0 cumulative g.p.a. or better and participated in at least 50% of the teams matches. Also, one full year of academic work has to be completed at that institution, meaning that freshmen and transfers are not eligible until next season.
