The University of New Mexico is gearing up for conference play. The Lobos will matchup with the Wisconsin Club Red Exhibition team and then Weber State before taking on conference foe, Air Force. The Wisconsin Club Red Team will feature several familiar faces as former Lobo players will be playing for the Wisconsin team.

BOMBS AWAY: The Lobos were 9-18 from the three-point line for 50% against New Mexico State. The Aggies who have had hot shooting from long distance were held to just 3-16, 18%. Chelsea Grear and Abbie Letz both made two three’s with Letz hitting a 25-foot jumper seconds before halftime.
DOUBLE MINT: Jordan Adams has had one double-double this year while Chelsea Grear has had two. Grear’s latest double effort was against New Mexico State as she had 20 points and 10 rebounds.
LUCKY SEVENS: Jordan Adams has now scored in double-figures in seven straight games. Adams also has led the team in scoring six times. Last season she had a streak of 17 games scoring in double-digits.
PLAY-MAKER, PLAY-MAKER: Mandi Moore has racked up 86 dishes this season, 7.3 a game. She’s had six games this season where she’s recorded eight or more assists. Mandi is now in 9th place in UNM’s career list.
HANDY-MAN: The Lobos have dished out 79 (2337-154) more assists than their opponents. The only time an opponent has had more assists than UNM was two of the Lobos losses.CLEANING THE GLASS: The Lobos have proved dominating on the boards this season. UNM has grabbed 106 more rebounds then their opponents, averaging 43.8 to 34.9. Against Memphis the Lobos grabbed a season-high 57 rebounds.
THANK-YOU, THANK-YOU: Jordan Adams has been named the Mountain West Conference Player of the Week twice this year. Adams was player of the week the weeks of Dec. 9 and Dec. 16.
SECOND WIND: Through most of the season the Lobos have seemed to like the second half, scoring 451 points during those 20 minutes.
BLOCK PARTY: Jordan Adams has had at least one block in every game so far this year. The Lobos have 48 blocks on the season compared to their opponents 21. Seven UNM players have recorded one or more blocks. Adams had a season-high six rejections against Louisiana Tech on Dec. 21. and she leads the team with 28 total.
STRAIGHT UP: The Lobos have now beaten their inter-state rival, New Mexico State, 14 straight times. No Lobo senior on this year’s roster has been beaten by the Aggies.
FIVE FOR THE DRIVE: The Lobos are going for their fifth 20-win season this year. The Lobos have had all four of their 20-win seasons under head coach Don Flanagan with their best ever record of 26-7 coming in Flanagan’s third year, 1997-98.
S-C-O-R-E: The Lobos averaged 65.8 points per game last year and held their opponents to 57.0 ppg. This year, New Mexico is averaging 71.8 ppg and their opponents are at 57.6 Seven of UNM’s nine wins have them scoring 73 or more points.
MORE MANDI: Mandi Moore led the team in minutes last season averaging 32.5. This season Moore has played the most minutes on the team at 421 minutes, 35.1 mpg. Moore is the only player this year to play an entire game, she’s done it twice.
SIZE MATTERS: The Lobos have seven players on their roster that are 6’0 or taller. The starting five last season averaged 5’10.6. The three incoming freshman average 6’0.3. Jordan Adams and Jana Francis are the two tallest on the roster at 6’3.
D MINUS: The Lobos have ranked in the top-25 final NCAA statistics for defense since Coach Flanagan came on board. Last season the Lobos were ranked in field goal percentage defense and scoring defense. This season the Lobos have held their opponents to 35% from field goal range and only 57.5 points a game.
D-FENCE: UNM has outrebounded their opponent defensively in 11 games this year. Currently UNM has 360 defensive boards to their opponents 268. The Lobos have outrebounded their opponents, 525-419.
NOT BAD, FOR STARTERS: New Mexico returns four starters from the 2001-02 season (Mandi Moore, Jordan Adams, Lindsey Arndt and Chelsea Grear).
AN MVP PERFORMANCE: Jordan Adams was given MVP honors for the Southwest Airlines Lobo Shootout. Chelsea Grear and Abbie Letz were both named to the All-Tournament Team. In UNM’s other home tournament, the Holiday Inn Mountain View Invitational, Melissa Forest was given MVP honors with Jordan Adams and Cristal Garcia chosen for the All-Tournament team.
WE LIKE THE COLOR RED: The Lobos will have two players redshirting this year. Jenny Shetters, a 6’4 transfer from Cal State Northridge will have two years of eligibility while 6’1 Fort Lewis College transfer Judy Vogt will give the Lobos three years.
2001-02 RECAP The Lobos ended the 2001-02 season with a record of 22-9, 10-4 in the Mountain West Conference. The Lobos were eliminated in the second round of the MWC Tournament, 71-58 to BYU and in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, 58-44 to Notre Dame.
NICE TO SEE YOU AGAIN: On the Wisconsin Club Red Exhibition team several former UNM players will be back at The Pit. Abby Garchek, Tamika Stukes and Katie Kern will all be playing for the Club Red team.

A MILE HIGH AND LOUDER THAN…: The Lobos begin their 12th season playing in one of the greatest home arenas in all of college basketball. UNM has an overall record of 118-61 (.659) in The Pit and are 48-31 in conference games (.607). Since Don Flanagan arrived on campus The Pit has welcomed the women’s basketball team with open arms. Since 1995, the Lobos are 104-23 (.818) overall and 42-9 (.823) in conference games.
TOP OF HER CLASS: Lobo senior, Jordan Adams has been chosen a nominee for the Senior CLASS Award. The award started last season and the first women’s honoree was Sue Bird. Ten finalists will be determined in early February. The names of the finalists will appear on an official ballot during March. The national winner will be determined by three different panels of voters; a fan balloting opportunity, a national media committee and a committee of Division I coaches.
WATCHING JORDAN: Jordan Adams became the sixth player in UNM history to score 1,000 points last season and she has moved into fourth place overall. Adams is already the women’s all-time shot blocker but she is also looking to become the school’s all-time shot blocker, surpassing Luc Longley of the men’s team.

PRESEASON FAVORITES: Jordan Adams has been chosen to the MWC preseason all-conference team. A second team all-conference pick last year, the 6-3 Adams ranks sixth all-time at UNM with 1,270 points and is first all-time in blocks with 258.
