Las Cruces, NM – The University of New Mexico (9-3) defeated the New Mexico State Aggies (5-6)tonight 76-58. This is makes a clean sweep on the year for the Lobos as they defeated the Aggies earlier in the season. The Lobos snapped a two-game skid.
The Aggies would lead just once in the first half before a three-pointer by Cristal Garcia with 15:00 left in the first half put the Lobos up and they never looked back. UNM would go 3-6 from three-point range, holding the Aggies to only one three-pointer. Abbie Letz would take the teams into the break by shooting a three-point shot from almost 25 feet away, putting the Lobos up by 46-28.
The Lobos appeared lackluster in the second half as they shot only 25% from field goal range while the Aggies shot 35%.
Chelsea Grear recorded her second double-double of the year with 20 points and 10 rebounds. Grear lead all scorers as she went into halftime with 16 points. She was 6-8 from field goal range along with 2-3 from the three-point line.
Jordan Adams ended with 14 points and Cristal Garcia had 12 as Adams scored all but four points in the second half. Adams also continued her blocking ways as she recorded one block. Adams has now had at least one block in every game this year.
UNM made 9 of 18 3-point shots on the night while the Aggies, usually an effective 3-point shooting team, made just 3 of 16 3-point shot attempts. Overall the Aggies shot just under 34 percent from the field while the Lobos made 46 percent of their shots.
The Lobos will be back in action on Saturday, December 4th against the Wisconsin Club Red. The Club Red team will feature several familiar faces as former UNM players, Abby Garchek, Tamika Stukes and Katie Kern will all play for the Club Red.
