Las Vegas Bowl Update: The Final CountdownLas Vegas Bowl Update: The Final Countdown

The University of New Mexico football team put the final touches on its preparation for the SEGA Sports Las Vegas Bowl today. The Lobos completed a quick walk-through at Sam Boyd Stadium this afternoon following the kickoff luncheon and press conference at the MGM Grand casino. Tonight, its early to bed as the players start their focus at the task at hand…beating UCLA.

Earlier today, both UCLA and UNM fans and players were on hand as NFL hall of fame defensive end Deacon Jones addressed the crowd. New Mexico head coach Rocky Long and quarterback Justin Millea also spoke about the Lobos’ bowl trip.

Fellow QB Casey Kelly and linebacker Charles Moss spoke to the media at this morning’s kickoff press conference. The following is sample of what coach Long had to say this morning:

Rocky Long“Our football team has been treated better here than they’ve ever been treated before. Our team has practiced well and we’re excited about playing. We haven’t played in a couple weeks, so I expect us to be a little rusty at the start of the game, but the spirit will be there. I think we have to hold the big plays to a minimum and I think we have to control the ball on offense.”

Yesterday, a rowdy crowd of Lobo fans, spirit and band members converged outside New Mexico’s Golden Nugget hotel/casino for the official Las Vegas Bowl pep rally at the Fremont Street Experience. Junior guard Claude Terrell lead the fans and players in an impressive display of Lobo spirit.
