ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Senior center Jordan Adams tied a career-high with 30 points to lead the University of New Mexico women’s basketball team to a dominating 78-42 victory over the University of Memphis in the championship game of the Southwest Airlines Lobo Shootout on Sunday evening at The Pit in Albuquerque. New Mexico (8-1) won its eighth-straight game and improved to 7-0 at home this season while Memphis dropped to 5-3 on the year.

UNM never trailed in the contest and had little trouble beating the Lady Tigers’ full-court press. The Lobos hit six of their first 11 shots to stake a 13-6 lead four minutes into the game. Adams scored eight-straight points in a 17-2 scoring run late in the half as New Mexico built a 47-22 lead at the 2:17 mark.

An unyielding Lobo defense sealed the victory with a tremendous second half performance. New Mexico limited Memphis to just 15 points in the half on 6-33 (18.2%) shooting from the floor. UNM also shutdown the Lady Tigers’ leading-scorer, senior center Shannon Hamp, who finished with just four points and two rebounds before fouling out six minutes into the second half. Hamp entered the contest averaging 18.3 points and 5.7 rebounds per game.

Adams, who earned tournament MVP honors, also added a season-high 10 rebounds, along with four assists and two blocks. New Mexico held a 57-37 advantage on the boards and recorded 24 assists with just 15 turnovers. Senior forward Chelsea Grear added 14 points (all in the first half) five rebounds and a season-high five assists, while freshman guard Abbie Letz added 13 points and a season-high nine rebounds.

Sophomore forward Victoria Crawford led Memphis with eight points and seven rebounds off the bench.

New Mexico captured the Lobo Shootout title for the sixth time in the tournament’s nine-year history. UNM outscored its two opponents, Dartmouth and Memphis, 147-85 and outrebounded both schools 106-72.

The Lobos travel to Tucson, Ariz. next to take on the Arizona Wildcats on Dec. 18 before returning home to face Louisiana Tech in the Triple Crown Classic on Saturday, Dec. 21. 1
