Last season the Lobos traveled to Austin to start a series with the University of Texas. This year the Longhorns make their way to Albuquerque. The Longhorns defeated the Lobos 71-58 last year. The Lobos are on a four game winning streak and look to upend the nationally ranked Longhorns.

BOMBS AWAY: The Aggies of New Mexico State made more three-pointers then the Lobos previous four opponents combined. Going into the New Mexico State game the Lobos had held their opponents to 10-56 from three-point range. NMSU went 14-34 for 42%. The Lobos are also shooting pretty well from long-range with 33 connections on 92 attempts.

ITS JUST A CAREER: Cristal Garcia recorded several career-highs against New Mexico State. Garcia racked up 20 points, five rebounds and played for 29 minutes.

GIVE ME A HAND: Mandi Moore has racked up 37 dishes, 7.4 a game. Currently shes leading the conference in assists and has a 2.06 assist-to-turnover ration. Shes had three games this season where shes recorded nine assists.

GOOD, BETTER, BEST: The Lobos have proved dominating in several stat categories this year. UNM has grabbed 62 more rebounds then their opponents, averaging 42.8 to 30.4. UNM is holding their opponents to a mere 58.4 points per game while averaging 76.2 themselves.

TS JUST NUMBERS: Through three home games, UNM is averaging 8,496 and all their games have had over 8,000 fans in attendance.

WATCHING JORDAN: Jordan Adams became the sixth player in UNM history to score 1,000 points last season and she has already moved into fifth place on the chart. Adams is already the womens all-time shot blocker but she is also looking to become the schools all-time shot blocker, surpassing Luc Longley of the mens team.

BLOCK PARTY: Jordan Adams has had at least one block in every game so far this year. Last season she had a block in every game but one. The Lobos have 17 blocks on the season compared to their opponents eight. Seven UNM players have recorded one or more blocks and two players have more than one.

GOING FOR FIVE: The Lobos are going for their fifth 20-win season this year. The Lobos have had all four of their 20-win seasons under head coach Don Flanagan with their best ever record of 26-7 coming in Flanagans third year, 1997-98.

LONG-RANGE MISSILES: In five games the Lobos have shot 33 three-pointers. In every game so far this season, UNM has made two or more threes and in the last three games, the Lobos have hit 26. Last season the most threes the Lobos were able to string together over a three-game span was 17.65S NOTHING: The Lobos averaged 65.8 points per game last year and held their opponents to 57.0 ppg. UNM won all 14 games where they scored 65 or more points. This year, New Mexico is averaging 76.2 ppg and their opponents are at 58.4. All four of UNMs wins have them scoring 73 or more points. OVER 50: The Lobos have five players that are currently shooting over 50% from field goal range. Chelsea Grear is 25-43 for 58%, Melissa Forest is 27-54 for 50%, Jordan Adams is 24-44 for 55%, Lauren McLeod is 8-16 for 50% and Tiffany Scaglione is 6-11 for 54%. As a team the Lobos are shooting 47%.

PREDICTIONS: The Lobos were picked to finish third by the media in the 2002-03 Mountain West Conference race.

PRESEASON FAVORITES: Jordan Adams has been chosen to the MWC preseason all-conference team. A second team all-conference pick last year, the 6-3 Adams ranks sixth all-time at UNM with 1,270 points and is first all-time in blocks with 258.

SIZE MATTERS: The Lobos have seven players on their roster that are 60 or taller. The starting five last season averaged 510.6. The three incoming freshman average 60.3. Jordan Adams and Jana Francis are the two tallest on the roster at 63.

A MILE HIGH AND LOUDER THAN…: The Lobos begin their 12th season playing in one of the greatest home arenas in all of college basketball. UNM has an overall record of 171-110 (.643) in The Pit and 42-31 in conference games .607). Since Don Flanagan arrived on campus The Pit has welcomed the womens basketball team with open arms. Since 1995, the Lobos are 119-96 (.806) overall and 42-9 (.823) in conference games.

TOP OF HER CLASS: Lobo senior, Jordan Adams has been chosen a nominee for the Senior CLASS Award. The award started last season and the first womens honoree was Sue Bird. Ten finalists will be determined in early February. The names of the finalists will appear on an official ballot during March. The national winner will be determined by three different panels of voters; a fan balloting opportunity, a national media committee and a committee of Division I coaches.

GIVE ME A MINUTE: Mandi Moore led the team in minutes last season averaging 32.5. This season Moore has played the most minutes on the team at 180 minutes, 36.0 mpg. Moore is the only player this year to play an entire game as she went a full 40 against New Mexico State.

BLOCK PARTY: The duo of Jordan Adams and Daja Adams resulted in 105 blocked shots last season. Jordan already has eight blocks on the year with freshman Abbie Letz swatting away three shots.

D MINUS: The Lobos have ranked in the top-25 final NCAA statistics for defense since Coach Flanagan came on board. Last season the Lobos were ranked in field goal percentage defense and scoring defense. This season the Lobos have held their opponents to 36.3% from field goal range and only 58.4 points a game.

D-FENCE: UNM has outrebounded their opponent defensively in all games this year. Currently UNM has 85 defensive boards to their opponents 69. The Lobos have outrebounded their opponents, 122-94.

NOT BAD, FOR STARTERS: New Mexico returns four starters from the 2001-02 season (Mandi Moore, Jordan Adams, Lindsey Arndt and Chelsea Grear).

WE LIKE THE COLOR RED: The Lobos will have two players redshirting this year. Jenny Shetters, a 64 transfer from Cal State Northridge will have two years of eligibility while 61 Fort Lewis College transfer Judy Vogt will give the Lobos three years.
