Albuquerque, N.M. New Mexico senior midfielder Junro Narita (Beppu, Japan; Tsurusho Gakuen HS) has earned a spot on the 2002 All-Midwest Region First Team. The 2002 Co-Captain was second on the team in scoring with 18 points on five goals and eight assists. Also making the Midwest Region team from the Lobos were freshman Lance Watson (3rd Team), and sophomore Andrew Weber (3rd Team).
Narita finished his Lobo career this season by guiding the Lobos to their most successful season in the history of the program. Weber solidified himself as one of the top goalkeepers in the region by posting six shutouts and a .91 goals-against-average. Watson was a member of the Lobos talented freshman class and was third on the team in scoring with 14 points on four goals and eight assists.
Besides posting a school-record 18 wins on the season, the Lobos also advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament for the second, consecutive season. First year head coach Jeremy Fishbein was named the 2002 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Coach of the Year and the Lobos placed six players on the MPSF All-Conference Team.
