Albuquerque, N.M. – The University of New Mexico womens swimming and diving team has announced the signing of four student-athletes who will begin competition for the Lobos in 2003-2004. Two of the four are New Mexico products while the other two are from the West Coast.
This is an exciting time for our program, said head coach Bill Spahn. We have signed the largest number of athletes ever during the fall period and all four of them will contribute immediately.
Corinne Ellis (San Diego, Calif.)
Ellis could be the best athlete to sign with UNM in the history of the swim program. She has experience at the National level and will provide great versatility to the team.
Assistant coach Lindsie Micko on Ellis:
Corinne has the ability to come into our program and be a top performer in the Mountain West Conference as well as compete at the NCAA level. We are extremely excited to have her as a Lobo.
Jennifer Hale (Tacoma, Wash.)
A versatile athlete who will compete primarily in the freestyle events, Jennifer will also be able to provide depth in the backstroke and butterfly.
Head coach Bill Spahn on Hale:
I think Jen is a swimmer with a ton of potential. She is someone who will be able to contribute right away and make a huge impact on our freestyle relay teams.
Jessica Brown (Albuquerque, N.M.)
Brown will add to the growing number of Albuquerque natives on the roster and is considered the best all-around senior swimmer in the state this year.
Coach Micko on Brown:
Jessica is a great girl who is going to help us in all events. There isnt an event she cant swim in and her excellent work ethic will allow her to continue to improve. We are excited to have one of the states best continue her career wth the Lobos.
Kelly Soldow (Santa Fe, N.M.)
Soldow is the defending New Mexico State High School champion in the 50 and 100 freestyle and will be looked to for top finishes in those events at UNM next year.
Coach Spahn on Soldow:
“We are very excited to have Kelly join us. She has the potential to become a great sprinter in our program and we are looking forward to having another New Mexico athlete participate at UNM.q
