Colorado Springs, Colo For the third time this season, sophomore diver Becca Barras has earned Diver of the Week honors. This weeks award, as announced by the Mountain West Conference, comes after the Kitchener, Ontario native had an outstanding showing at the Indiana Invite, Nov 22-24, placing in the top-eight in every event.
For the first time this season, the Lobos solely took on out-of-conference opponents. UNM matched up against Tennessee, Clemson, Miami, Kentucky, Arkansas, Indiana, Evansville and Cincinnati. Indiana, Clemson and Kentucky either have been or are currently ranked in the top-25 this season.
On Nov. 22, Barras placed third on the 1-meter with a final score of 271.80 and fourth on the 3-meter with 459.10 points. On the final day of the meet, Sunday, Nov. 24, Barras placed seventh on the platform with 336.90 points. Considering New Mexicos diving facilities do not include a platform, Barras performance is particularly noteworthy as she and the rest of the diving squad must use competitions to gain experience on the event.
The UNM swimming and diving team cracks into its spring schedule on Friday, Jan. 10 when the Lobos take on the Cougars of Houston at the Seidler Natatorium in Albuquerque. Meet time is set for 12 p.m.
