ALBUQUERQUE, NM The University of New Mexico womens basketball has two signees for next season. Julie Briody, a 60 guard/forward from Lynnville, Indiana and Katie Montgomery, a 510 guard from Lincoln, Nebraska have both signed official letters of intent with UNM.
Briody was named an Adidas All America in July and led her AAU team to an 85-14 record the past two summers. She averaged 27.4 ppg, 7.3 rpg, 4.8 spg and 4.3 apg and shot 93% from the free throw line. Briody is a player that can do it all, said head coach Don Flanagan. Were excited to have her become a member of our Lobo family.
Montgomery, one of the top five womens high school basketball players in the state of Nebraska averaged 17.5 ppg, 3.2 rpg and 4.5 apg. She was chosen to the Class B all-state first team, was second team super-state and was first team all-city. Montgomery suffered a knee injury during soccer season last May but will play for St. Pius High School her senior year. Montgomery helped lead her team to a 23-2 record last year.
Both Julie and Katie will bring a lot to our program, Flanagan said. We expect Katie to get healthier and stronger this coming year and she will come into our program ready to make an immediate contribution.
