UPCOMING GAMES: The Lobos (13-2-0, 3-0-0 MPSF) head back to California for a two-game road trip this weekend. Their first stop is a Friday afternoon match against Sacramento State (4-6-4, 1-1-1 MPSF) in Sacramento, Calif. at 3:00 p.m. (M.S.T.). The Lobos then travel to San Jose, Calif. for a Sunday afternoon match against San Jose State (9-7-0, 3-0-0 MPSF) at 1:00 p.m. (M.S.T.).

Lobos In the Rankings: The Lobos are back in the CollegeSoccerNews.com Top-30 rankings this week at No. 29. Their highest ranking this season was No. 28 for the weeks of September 16 and September 30. The Lobos also jumped two spots in the NSCAA Midwest Region ranking to No. 3. New Mexico is also receiving votes in the NSCAA Top-25 and the Soccer Times Top-25.

Previous Rankings: The Lobos have only been ranked in two previous season. In 1992, UNM climbed as high as No. 17 in the Soccer America Poll for the week of October 20, 1992. In 1997 the Lobos earned their highest ranking in any poll when they reached No. 15 in the Soccer America Top-20 for the week of November 3, 1997. The No. 15 ranking was the last time UNM earned a spot in any poll.

Long Time Coming: The Lobos beat Air Force for the first time since the 1995 season and beat Denver for the first time since the 1997 season.

Another Streak to Break: The Lobos have dropped four-straight matches to San Jose State. Their last win was in Albuquerque on September 17, 1995 when UNM downed the Spartans, 2-1, in overtime.

NCAA Rankings: The Lobos are ranked No. 17 in the nation in team defense with a 0.78 goals-against-average. They are also No. 4 in winning percentage (.867) and tied for second in wins (13). Only the Lobos, No. 4 SMU, and No. 5 Indiana have 13 wins while No. 9 Wisconsin-Milwaukee and No. 16 Coastal Carolina lead the nation with 14 wins. Andrew Webers 0.80 G.A.A. ranks 18th in the nation.

On the Mend: Junior Micah Newman sat out his fourth-straight game due to an injured toe. He was available for the Denver game but did not play. Sophomore goalkeeper Josef Bachmeier suffered a thigh contusion against Air Force and was forced to leave the game. He is expected to make the trip this weekend.

Leading The Way: Ben Ashwill still leads the MPSF in goals scored (10). As a team, the Lobos lead the conference in goals scored (35), goals-per-game (2.33), and G.A.A. (0.78).

Best Start: UNM started the 2002 season with eight-straight wins, the best ever in school history. Their longest win-streak is nine games and took place in the 1992 season.

Weber Moves Up the All-Time Shutout List: Sophomore Andrew Weber recorded his fifth shutout of the season with the 1-0 win over Denver on Sunday, October 27. He now has 10 career shutouts and is all alone in fourth place on UNMs all-time shutout list. The career mark is held by Greg Hess (97) who scored 15 shutouts from 1994-1997.

Iron Men: The Lobos have two players who have played every minute in 2002, including sophomore Danny Bills and freshmen Brandon Moss.

Goals Galore: In 2001 the Lobos scored 27 goals in 21 games, just 1.20 goals-per-game. Through 15 games this season, the Lobos have scored 35 goals, averaging 2.28 goals-per-game.

13 Wins-2nd Most in School History: The Lobos 13 wins tie the second-most wins for a UNM team in school history. UNM needs one more wins to tie the schools all-time record for wins in a season. UNM won 14 games on two previous occasions, 1994 (14-6-0) and 1992 (14-4-1). Ashwill Gets 10: Freshman Ben Ashwill scored his 10th goal of the season against Denver. He is the first Lobo to score ten or more goals in a season since 1997 when Justin Sells recorded 16 goals. The team record for goals in a season is 19, set by Edmundo Rodriquez in 1992.

MPSF Tickets On Sale: Tickets for the 2002 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Mens Soccer Tournament are now on sale. The tournament takes place on November 14, 15, &17 at the UNM Soccer Complex. The top six teams in the MPSF qualify with the first and second seeds receiving first round byes. Game times for Thursday and Friday are 4:00 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. (M.S.T.) with the championship game on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. (M.S.T.).
