Tulsa, Okla. Sophomore Tiffany Robertson (Blenheim, N.Z.), for the second day, has been successful at the Central Region Championships in Tulsa. She won her quarterfinal match of the qualifying round this afternoon and advanced to the round of 64 of the main draw. UNM’s Tjasa Suvak (Belca, Slovenia), Maja Kovacek (Pula, Croatia) and Michelle Heidbrink (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) also participated in main draw competition today.
Robertson faced Patricia Chine of Wyoming in her first match of the day. She beat her opponent 6-2, 4-6, (11-9). Robertson’s next match will be played later this evening against NAU’s Kirsten Balk.
Rachel Hatley (Burleson, Texas) also played in the qualifying round today but was defeated 5-7, 6-2, (10-8) by Oklahoma’s Yalanti Santi.
In main draw action, Suvak defeated Erin Polowski of Boise State in three sets, 2-6, 6-2, 6-2. Heidbrink took her opponent, Paige Brown of Kansas, to three sets before she eventually lost 3-6, 6-2, 6-3.
Lobo freshman Maja Kovacek is slated to face Urska Juric (Missouri) later on this evening in the main draw round of 64.
New Mexico will also be participating in three doubles matches tonight. Heidbrink/Robertson will face Beachler/Braver of Oklahoma, Hatley/Ruiz-Fabrega will play Barry/Holliday of Missouri and Suvak/Kovacek will match-up against Olshanskya/Ruskova, also of Missouri.
Scores from tonight’s matches will be available as of 9 a.m. (C.S.T.) tomorrow morning.
