Albuquerque, N.M. – The University of New Mexico’s women’s diving team will participate in its first diving dual of the year this weekend against Arizona State at the Mona Plummer Aquatic Center in Tempe, Ariz. The Lobos’ three divers, sophomore Becca Barras (Kitchener, Ont.), junior Tracey Berghian (Phoenix, Ariz.) and newcomer Kaley Knafelc (Colorado Springs, Colo.) will compete in the 1-meter, 3-meter and platform events beginning at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 12.

ASU will feature five divers in this weekend’s dual. Sophomore transfer Trisha Tumlinson is expected to lead the Sun Devils after coming off a successful 2001 campaign at Kentucky where she was an All-American Honorable Mention selection.

The Lobos, too, have some talented divers who had exceptional results last year. Becca Barras and Tracey Berghian dominated the Mountain West Conference diving ranks in 2001-2002, placing 1-2 10 times over the season and no lower than fourth in any competition.

At the MWC Championships, Barras finished second on the 1-meter board, third on the 3-meter and fourth on platform. Berghian also had a strong showing, finishing sixth on the 1-meter, fourth on the 3-meter and third on the platform. Based on season points, Barras qualified for the zone meet in the 3-meter board and was just three points shy of qualifying in the 1-meter board.

Next up for the UNM swimming and diving team is a meet at Wyoming on Oct. 17 and the Early Bird Invite in Fort Collins, Colo. on Oct. 18-19.
