UPCOMING GAMES: The Lobos return home to the UNM Soccer Complex on Sunday, October 6 for a 1:00 p.m. (M.D.T.) match against UC-Colorado Springs. New Mexico (8-2-0) is looking to stop a two-game slide after a tough road trip to California that included losses against Cal State Fullerton (2-1 on 9/29) and UC Irvine (1-0 on 10/1). The Lobos will try to rebound against their only Division II regular season opponent.

Lobos In the Rankings: Despite the loss to Cal State Fullerton on Sunday, the Lobos are still receiveing votes in the CollegeSoccerNews.com’s Top-30. UNM only dropped one spot in the NSCAA Midwest Region to No. 6.
Previous Rankings: The Lobos have only been ranked in two previous season. In 1992, UNM climbed as high as No. 17 in the Soccer America Poll for the week of October 20, 1992. In 1997 the Lobos earned their highest ranking in any poll when they reached No. 15 in the Soccer America Top-20 for the week of November 3, 1997. The No. 15 ranking was the last time UNM earned a spot in any poll.
Scoring Drought: The Lobos were shut out in a 1-0 loss to UC Irvine on Tuesday. It was the first first time in 2002 UNM failed to score a goal and the first shut out since a 2-0 loss to No. 1 SMU in the second round of the 2001 NCAA Tournament.
2nd Most Wins: The Lobos are currently tied with six schools for the second most wins in the NCAA, including No. 2 Stanford (8-1-0), No. 6 Maryland (8-2-0), No. 7 Loyola Marymount (8-0-2), No. 10 Bradley (8-0-2), No. 13 American (8-2-0), and Coastal Carolina (8-0-1). Only No. 12 San Diego (9-1-0) has more wins in NCAA Division I.
NCAA Statistical Rankings: After hovering around the Top-15 in offense and defense, the Lobos allowed two goals and only scored one last weekend, dropping them just out of the NCAA Top-20 in both categories.
Ashwill 4th in Goals Scored: Freshman Ben Ashwill leads the team, the MPSF and is tied for 4th in the NCAA with eight goals scored.
Most Goals Allowed in 2002: The Lobos allowed Cal State Fullerton to score two goals in a 2-1 loss on Sunday. It was the first time in 2002 UNM has allowed two goals in a game. The last time UNM allowed two goals was against No. 1 SMU in a 2-0 loss in the second round of the NCAA Tournament on November 25, 2002.
Leading The Way: The Lobos hold the lead atop the MPSF standings and in several statistical categories. Freshman Ben Ashwill leads in points (17) and goals scored (8). Freshman Lance Watson and sophomore Eric Carlson lead the assist category with 4 each. Sophomore Andrew Weber leads with a 0.80 goals-against-average.
Best Start: UNM started the 2002 season with eight-straight wins, the best ever in school history. Their longest win-streak is nine games and took place in the 1992 season.
Weber Moves Up the All-Time Shutout List: Sophomore Andrew Weber recorded his third shutout of the season in a 1-0 with over Southwest Missouri State on Sunday. It was his eighth career shutout, moving him into a tie for No. 4 with Chad Nelson (1998-99) on UNM’s career shutout list.
Iron Men: The Lobos have two players who have played every minute in 2002, including sophomore Danny Bills and freshmen Brandon Moss.
Goals Galore: Last season the Lobos scored 27 goals in 21 games, averaging just 1.20 goals-per-game. Through ten games this season the Lobos have scored 23 goals are averaging 2.30 goals-per-game.
10 Wins: The Lobos only need two more wins to eclipse the 10-win mark for the 2002 season. If UNM can accomplish this it will be first time a Lobo team has gotten to double-digit wins since the 1998 season when the Lobos finished 10-8-1. Ashwill Approaching 10: Freshman Ben Ashwill needs just two more goals to reach double figures in that category for the 2002 season. When he accomplishes this feat, he will be the first Lobo to score ten or more goals in a season since 1997 when Justin Sells recorded 16 goals. 1
