IRVINE, Calif. – The University of New Mexico mens soccer team dropped a close, 1-0, match at UC IRvine (5-4-1) tonight. The Lobos (8-2-0) concluded a two game road trip to California and will return to the UNM Soccer Complex on Sunday, October 6 with a 1:00 p.m. match against UC-Colorado Springs. Sophomore goalkeeper Andrew Weber made a season-high seven saves but could not hold off the Anteater attack as UC Irvine scored the game winner in the 47th minute of play.

So far this season, the Lobos have out-shot their opponents 155-77, but tonight the Lobos only got off 11 shots to UCIs 17. Weber had a busy evening and was able to keep the game close by making six, second-half saves. The decisive goal came at the 46:13 mark from Anteater Dardo Acuna when he fired a shot from inside the box on the right side that was just out of Webers reach. The 1-0 loss was the fist time in 2002 the Lobos have been shut out, and marks the first time the Lobos have lost two straight games since losing to San Diego State (10/28/01) and UNLV (11/05/01) to finish off the 2001 regular season.

UNM has two more non conference games before the start of the Mountain Pacific Sport Federation season against San Diego State at 2:00 p.m. (M.D.T.) in the UNM Soccer Complex on Sunday, October 20.
