UPCOMING GAMES: The Lobos finish off a four-game home stand this weekend with matches against Georgia State and Southwest Missouri State in the Lobo Invitational. Friday, September 20, action begins at 5:00 p.m. (M.D.T.) with the neutral game between Air Force and SMS. The Lobos then face Georgia State at 7:30 p.m. (M.D.T.) in the second game. On Sunday, September 22 the Lobos host Southwest Missouri State at 12:30 p.m. (M.D.T.) following the neutral match between Air Force and Georgia State at 10:30 a.m. (M.D.T).

Lobos In the Rankings: The Lobos’ 6-0-0 record is gaining recognition throughout the country. UNM is appearing in the NSCAA Midwest region poll (No.5) and the CollegeSoccerNews.com poll (No. 28) for the week of September 16, 2002.
Previous Rankings: The Lobos have only been ranked in two previous season. In 1992, UNM climbed as high as No. 17 in the Soccer America Poll for the week of October 20, 1992. In 1997 the Lobos earned their highest ranking in any poll when they reached No. 15 in the Soccer America Top-20 for the week of November 3, 1997. The No. 15 ranking was the last time UNM earned a spot in any poll.
Crowded House: On Friday, September 13, the Lobos won their season opener against Cal Poly, 3-0, in front of 2,502 fans at the UNM Soccer Complex. It was the largest crowd at the UNM Soccer Complex since 4,237 fans saw the Lobos defeat Wisconsin-Milwaukee on September 12,1997.
Ashwill 3rd in NCAA: Lobo Freshman Ben Ashwill’s six goals ranks third in the NCAA. He is 10th in the country in goals-per-game with a 1.0 average.
Sizing Up With the NCAA: UNM is ranked 11th in the NCAA in offense, scoring 2.83 goals-per-game. The Lobo defense is 17th in the country, allowing a 0.65 goals-against-average.
Most Wins in the Country: There are 10 undefeated teams in NCAA Division I men’s soccer, but only the Lobos and South Carolina have a 6-0-0 record.
Leading The Way: Not only are the Lobos leading the MPSF standings, they hold the lead in almost every statistical category. Freshman Ben Ashwill leads with 13 points and six goals. Sophomore Andrew Weber leads with a 0.655 goals-against-average and is second in saves with 19. Sophomore Eric Carlson leads with four assists. Best Start: UNM has started the 2002 season with six-straight wins, the best ever in school history. Their longest win-streak is nine games and took place in the 1992 season.
National Team of the Week: Freshman Ben Ashwill earned a spot on the CollegeSoccerNews.com’s National Team of the Week after scoring two goals and an assist in two games this week. He was also named the TLC Plumbing and Utility Invitational Offensive MVP.
All Tournament Team: The following four Lobos were named to the TLC Plumbing and Utility Invitational All Tournament Team This Weekend: Andrew Weber – Defensive MVP, Ben Ashwill – Offensive MVP, Junro Narita, and Javier Carrasco
Freshmen Force: UNM’s heralded freshman class has accounted for 13 of the 17 goals scored in 2002. Ben Ashwill leads UNM with six goals.
What a Run: Dating back to last season, the Lobos have won 10 of their last 11 contests. Their only loss is a 2-0 defeat to No. 1 SMU in the 2001 NCAA Tournament second round.
Iron Men: The Lobos have four players who have played every minute in 2002, including sophomores Andrew Weber and Danny Bills, and freshmen Brandon Moss and Matt Chavez.
Goals Galore: Last season the Lobos scored 27 goals in 21 games, averaging just 1.20 goals-per-game. Through six games this season the Lobos have scored 17 goals are averaging 2.67 goals-per-game. y
