Women’s Tennis: UNM’s Tjasa Suvak To Play In Prestigious Tournament This Weekend

Albuquerque, N.M.- The University of New Mexico womens tennis team member Tjasa Suvak (Belca, Slovenia) will play in the ColemanVision Tennis Championships in Albuquerque on Sunday as the Lobos wild-card entry. The tournament draw is set to take place on Saturday evening at which time Suvak will find out whom her opponent will be and what time she will play.

2002 marks the second year that Suvak has been a part of the ColemanVision Tournament, after she was called upon at the last minute in 2001 to replace a qualifer who did not show up.

This year, the junior is entering the tournament as UNMs No.1 player after finishing up last season in the top position with a 23-14 record. Suvaks wild-card spot in the tournament this weekend will give her an exciting opportunity to face an opponent ranked among the top 500 players in the world.

The ColemanVision Tournament, held at Highpoint Sports and Wellness in Albuquerque, is part of the Challenger Tour, an ongoing event that enables young, up and coming players to improve their skills while participating in competitive matches. Ultimately, the hope is that players will gain exposure and move onwards in the tennis world.

This years tournament includes four high-calibre players ranked in the USTAs top-100, including current first-seeded player, Laura Granville who is also ranked 52nd in the world.A
