WOODLAND, Calif. New Mexico hometown freshman forward Ben Ashwill (Albuquerque, NM; Sandia HS) has been named the first Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Brine Player of the Week for 2002 by netting four goals while leading the Lobos to a 4-0 season opening record. Ashwill is tied for the MPSF point lead of eight points with fellow UNM freshman Lance Watson. Scoring in the last three of the four Lobo victories, Ashwill opened his string with one goal in a 3-0 win over Marshall, another in a 3-1 win over Georgia Southern and two in Sundays 4-1 win over Illinois-Chicago.
Ashwill and the Lobos play their home opener on Friday, September 13 in the UNM Soccer Complex. Action begins on Friday with Evansville taking on UNLV at 5:00 p.m. (M.D.T.) followed by the Lobos game against Cal Poly at 7:30 p.m. (M.D.T.).
