This weekend the University of New Mexico men’s soccer team plays its final tune-up for the 2002 season with an exhibition match against Fort Lewis College. The match will be held in Durango, Colo. on Sunday, August 25 at 1:00 p.m. (M.D.T.). The Lobos will face stiff competition from the Division II Skyhawks. Fort Lewis is ranked no.16 in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America preseason Division II poll.

Last season the Lobos defeated Fort Lewis, 2-1, in Albuquerque in a regular season match on October 5, 2001. Senior Ty Hibbert and sophomore Billy Junot both scored in the Lobo win.

• Overall, the Lobos hold a 5-1-0 record over Fort Lewis in regular season matches.

• UNM’s head coach Jeremy Fishbein was the Skyhawks’ head coach for seven seasons between 1992 and 1998. He posted a 74-47-7 record at FLC, including four conference championships.

• Lobo volunteer assistant coach Shane Huff was a member of Fort Lewis’ staff in 2000.
