Colorado Springs, CO–The University of New Mexico (12-4, 1-1) women’s basketball team proved that their poor shooting performance last weekend against UNLV was a fluke as they shot 45% from the field in a strong defeat of the Air Force Falcons (4-10,0-1) today.
UNM never trailed in the easy defeat as they led by as much as 13 with 5:11 left in the first half and were up by 19 at the break, 36-17. The Lobos shot 50% from the field and 55% from the three-point line in the first half.
The second half was much the same as UNM would lead by as much as 22 before Air Force went on an 8-0 run to close the gap to 11 with 7:35 left.
Jordan Adams led all scorers with 17 points, Mandi Moore added 12 and was 4-7 from three-point land. Melissa Forest came on strong in the second half and ended the game with 11 points.
UNM outshot and outrebounded the Falcons. The Lobos ended up going 7-16 from three-point range and 9-11 from the free throw line. The Falcons lead the conference in steals right now but the Lobos shut them down, grabbing 11 steals to AFA’s 6.
Next up for UNM will be BYU on Jan. 17 at 7:00 pm. Then Utah travels to The Pit for a 7:00 pm tip on Jan. 19.A
