Albuquerque, N.M. — The states bragging rights remain with the University of New Mexico as the Lobos defeated the New Mexico State Aggies tonight by the score of 82-55. New Mexico improves to 8-3 overall whilethe Aggies drop to 4-5 on the season.

The Lobos had to come from behind early on as the Aggies scored first on a three-pointer by Jenia Dimitrova. The Lobos cut it down to one and with 16:45 then took the lead and never looked back. UNM led by as much as 18 points with 4:51 left but NMSU got to within 12 at 2:41 before hot shooting allowed the Lobos to scored the next seven points and take a 47-28 lead into the break.

The second half was much the same. Leading the Lobos on the night was junior center Jordan Adams who finished with a team-high 20 points, six blocks and seven rebounds. Adams has scored 20+ points in five of UNMs 11 games and is averaging 16.6 points per game. Defensively Adams leads the nation in block stats with a season total of 47, good for a 4.3 per game average.

As a team New Mexico shot 47% hitting 29 of 62 from the field. The Lobos pulled down 47 boards and dished out 22 assists with freshman Mandi Moore leading the team with eight.

The Aggies struggled with the Lobos tight defense shooting only 37% for the game hitting 22 of 60 shots. NMSU did not go to the line until 16:57 in the second half and finishing 6-9 for the game. NMSUs Mari Sanchez came into the game averaging 15.0 points per game but was held to only fivepoints in 29 minutes of play.

The Lobos on the other hand went 19-29 from the charity stripe with Moore going 4-4 and freshman guard Stephanie Shaw hitting five of six. Senior Molly McKinnon had a great night scoring 15 points and tying her season high with two three-pointers. McKinnon added four assists, one steal and four rebounds.

New Mexico head coach Don Flanagan is currently on a 12 game win streak against New Mexico State after starting 0-2 in his first year with UNM.

The Lobos return to action this weekend hosting the Southwest Airlines Lobo Shootout on Dec. 21-22. Opening the tournament on Fri., Dec. 21 will be Long Island University who will face Central Michigan at 6 p.m. followed byhost New Mexico against St. Bonaventure on at 8 p.m. The tournament wraps up on Sat., Dec. 21 with the consolation game set for 6 p.m. followed by the championship at 8 p.m.
