The University of New Mexico football team inked six junior college transfers to national letters of intent on Wednesday, December 19. Because of their early signing, all six players will enroll at UNM for the 2002 spring semester and be able to participate in spring drills which begin on February 11.

“We recruited some junior college guys to meet some needs that this football team has, and I think we fulfilled a lot of those needs today,” head coach Rocky Long said. “We’re glad to get them signed now so they can get a head start and practice with the team in the spring.”

Of the six signees, all of whom are defensive players, five will have twoyears of eligibility at UNM, while one will have three years of eligibility. The Lobos signed two linebackers, one defensive lineman, onedefensive end, one cornerback and one safety.

National signing day for high school players is on February 6.
